This poster is the seventh, of an eight-part poster series designed by José Bardasano for the Spanish Communist Party (PCE) during the Spanish Civil War. Each poster in the series illustrated a point from the PCE's document 'Conditions For Winning the War'. The imagery of soldier, standing with his back to the land illustrates the seventh point, 'That in the countryside it produces whatever is missing for the front and the rearguard on the basis of a plan, but that it respects the product of the work, whether individual or collective, of the peasant masses'

As the fighting continued, there was disagreement amongst the Republican side (broadly made up of socialists, communists, anarchists and republicans) over how the war could be used as an opportunity to reorganise Spanish society. Some argued that the war needed to be won before change could begin. However many communist groups pushed for reforms, such as collectivisation of the land. Which, as this poster illustrates, they argued could help provide more food for the soldiers at the front, and therefore increase their chances of winning the war.
