Photograph

Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Clay was among the first photographers in the mid-1970s to embrace colour photography as an artistic medium. Fascinated by the different colours and light sources in the urban night, he shot a series of photographs documenting parked cars on the streets of New York and New Jersey. He was drawn to the gleaming metal and glass of cars, iridescent in the artificial lighting of the nocturnal city, as well as the way that they interacted with the surrounding architecture.
