Mean City

Photograph
1993-1999 (photographed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This image is one of a series that conveys the strangeness of the city at night. The scene shows deserted buildings, streets and sometimes glimpses of figures. The differing types of artificial light and moonlight define the spaces between buildings as much as they define buildings themselves. As a sequence, the photographs convey some of the sensations felt by the photographer wandering and observing alone. The result is a subtle combination of aesthetic, urban, social and personal viewpoints.
