From 1961 and lasting more than a decade, Frelimo (Front for the Liberation of Mozambique) rebels fought a guerrilla war. In 1974 Portugal officially agreed to support Mozambique's independence. The country became independent on June 25, 1975.
The guerrilla fighter featured on this poster is FRELIMO leader Samora Machel, who became the President of Mozambique following independence.
