The NATØ (Narrative Architecture Today) collective was a group of young architects studying at the Architectural Association. They emerged from the Unit 10 course taught at the Architectural Association in the 1970s by Bernard Schumi, and later by Nigel Coates. Their activities were expressed through drawings, exhibitions, and publications which included a magazine. They were fascinated by the chaotic elements of contemporary culture, and drew heavily on music, club culture, clothing and filmmaking. Fascinated by the process of post-industrial urban decay, and its relationship to historical ideas of identity, Britain was given the identity of ‘Albion’. This had close affinities with the work of Derek Jarman, and this drawing relates to an unrealised retreat designed for him.
