Object history
The paired partner to this figure, a female figure (FE.70-1977) is also in the collection: the two have been referred to as 'Adam and Eve', though the male figure has also been known as 'the slave'. PJ Donelly 'Blanc De Chine', London 1969, p. 195 records that six examples of 'Eve' (but seemingly none of 'Adam') were in Augustus the Strong's inventory before 1721.
