Earring

1940-50 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The angular three-dimensionality typical of much 1940s jewellery is softened in these earrings with their curving, pleated panels of gold. This suggests a date towards the end of the decade when austerity's grip on fashion was loosening, and designs - most notably Christian Dior's New Look Collection launched in the Spring of 1947 - became more flowing and feminine.
