Carrie Copson was an able pupil of Arthur Gaskin at the Vittoria School of Silversmithing and Jewellery, Birmingham between 1905 and 1912. She was awarded the National Silver medal, Silversmith First Prize and the Messenger Prize for her fruit bowl which was exhibited in London, 1913 and in Paris 1914. This lamp was also included in the Paris 1914 exhibition.
