Object history | Part of the Vanbrugh Album, which was purchased in 1992 with the aid of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the National Art Collections Fund, The Monument Trust, The Sainsbury Trust, and an anonymous donor. |
Historical context | The monument is in the south transept of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. `Dr Worth' must be Edward Worth MD, the book collector and governor of Dr Steven's Hospital, who left his books to the hospital where they still occupy the boardroom shelves designed for them by Pearce, who succeeded Burgh as architect there. The inscription on the actual monument states that the burying place was granted by the Dean and Chapter in May 1732. |
