This pinewood games box was made by a French prisoner of war in Britain in ca. 1797-1815, during the Napoleonic Wars. This casket is overlaid with strips of bone and inset with fourteen water-colour paintings. The casket contains two bone dice, fifty-six cards painted on bone and fifty-six (two double-blanks) dominoes.

Games box, bone and wood, with cards, dice and dominoes, made by a French prisoner of war in Britain, ca. 1797-1815
Physical description
Casket of pine, overlaid with strips of bone and inset with fourteen water-colour paintings. The casket contains two bone dice, fifty-six cards painted on bone and fifty-six (two double-blanks) dominoes. The paintings represent: four baskets of flowers, two vases of flowers, four landscapes, two ladies and two gentlemen. The top edges are pierced for use as a cribbage marker. The box is filled with 56 dominoes, two bone dice, and 56 cards painted on bone.
