This basin is made of paktong, literally 'white brass'. The material has a high zinc content and was commonly used to make domestic objects like basins and locks. Basins like this were used as wash basins. It would have been placed on a wooden stand and used for daily personal ablutions.

Physical description | Brass-coloured, cylindrical basin with everted top and vertical rim. Exterior of basin is plain, interior is decorated with engraved motifs. Interior base has image of peach tree growing from a rock, below which are waves, on which stand cranes; a third crane and cloud above. Everted section is decorated with flowers and foliage. Top of rim is decorated with clouds and bats. |
