Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This length of bobbin lace is particularly interesting. The lacemaker worked the original piece in the form of deep scallops in the 1630s. It was probably made in north Italy and then imported in to England. In the 1650s another lacemaker adapted the piece by adding small flower motifs, which have been inserted into the spaces between the scallops to create a fashionable straight edge. These are very English in style.
